Dark clouds passed over Main Street, Manchester but did not linger. Partial sun, cooler temperatures and a light breeze made for a near perfect weather for the 10th Anniversary Cruisin’ on Main Street. Organizers estimate just over 1,000 vintage vehicles and 30,000 plus spectators making this one of the best attended shows to date. Attendees could view a range of vehicles from Brass Era autos to “Rat Rods” and a vintage fire truck to a 1949 F-8 Wrecker.

The Firestone Big Foot Monster Truck and the Stafford Motor Speedway race cars anchored the north end of Main Street prompting many photos ops as families posed next to the mammoth tires and kids sat in the “cockpit” of the racers. DJ Jim Wayne conducted interviews and spun the oldies throughout the day from his home base in front of Center Park.

Carter Chevrolet anchored the south end of the show showcasing many Chevy vehicles including those on display by members of the Chevy Club of New England. Music and commentary were provided by DJ T.S. Gilman with live performances by “The Crustaceans” a local surf band.

The mid point of the event area featured a live remote by Good Time Rock ‘n Roll 102.9 DRC-FM and music by the Over the Hill Gang DJ. Sponsor exhibits lined the street, while street vendors and Downtown restaurants bustled with activity. For many it was their busiest day to date.

Between the north and south terminus of the show the “magnificent mile” of vintage vehicles was overwhelming in its variety and splendor. Sponsors had a hard time selecting their “choice” award winner from a field of so many great cars. Thirty-eight “Sponsor’s Choice” trophies were awarded. Award winners spanned styles and eras from a 1932 Ford Roadster owned by Tony Fasolo of Farmington, CT to 1959 Edsel Ranger owned by Cecile Miller of Coventry, CT and a 1975 Chevrolet El Camino owned by Gary Lutsky of Dayville, CT.

Whether you were a show car owner, spectator, sponsor, vendor or Downtown business, all agreed that the 10th Anniversary Cruisin’ on Main Street was a cruise and show to remember.
